Lemons On Top and Her Filly

25 Sep Lemons On Top and Her Filly

We call the filly “Pistol” and she is a Pistol…but her attitude is fitting for a winning race horse!  She was the seventh foal born on the farm.  Her foaling date is 4/18/15. Lemons On Top is a ‘08 mare by Lemon Drop Kid and Reach The Top by Cozzene.  She ran 9 times mainly in the Central US with a total wining of over $31,000 and a high speed rating of 89.

Here is some background on her outstanding breeding: Lemon Drop Kid –Sire – Earner of over $3.2 million, Multiple graded stakes winner including winning the Belmont Stakes in 1999 defeating Charismatic on his Triple Crown bid.   He was the 2000 Eclipse Award winner.  He has produced many Graded Stakes winners.  He presently stands at stud at Lane’s End Farm, here in Versailles, for $40,000.

Reach The Top – Broodmare – Winner of over $214,000 in 8 starts with a high-speed rating of 96.  She produced Star Channel, a Multiple Stakes winner of over $400,000 and Changing World , a Graded Stakes winner of almost $400,000.

Cozzene – Broodmare Sire – Multiple Graded Stakes winner in ’83-’85 of over $978,000.  He was the 1985 Eclipse Award winner Champion Grass horse.  He produced many multiple graded stakes winners including Star of Cozzene, earner of over $2.3 million and Alphabet Soup earner of over $2.9 million.

Pistol is Lemon’s second foal.  The mare is currently in foal with Creative Cause for 2016 with an expected foaling date of 4/15/2016.

The filly has already been registered in The Jockey Club and has been nominated for the KTDF (Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund).  She is doing well in her early training and was weaned on 9/21/15.  You can tell by the pictures, that she is a very attractive filly.  She does have a knee that we are concerned about and had a surgeon from Hagyard Equine Medical Institute come to the farm about two weeks ago and evaluate her.  He told us to wait until she is about a year old before being re-evaluated for possible surgery.  We are doing corrective trimming on her presently every two weeks.
