10 Nov Dover Crossing and Her Filly
We call the filly Dover (I know…not very original) and she was the ninth foal born on the farm. Her foaling date is 4/18/15.
Dover Crossing is a ‘09 mare by English Channel and Mighty Frio by Pulpit. She ran mainly at Golden Gate with total earnings of $22,000 and a high speed rating of 87. Here is some background on her outstanding breeding:
English Channel –Sire – Earner of over $5.3 million, Multiple graded stakes winner including the Eclipse Award winner in 2007 Champion Grass Horse. He won the Breeders Cup in 2007 in the John Deere Turf and 3rd in the same race in 2006. His career progeny earnings are over $19.6 million. He has a high speed rating of 126. He presently stands at stud at Calumet Farms in Lexington for $25,000.
Mighty Frio – Broodmare – Winner of over almost $30,000 in 8 starts with a high-speed rating of 87. Her 3 year old filly, Mighty Souper, is a multiple stakes placed horse and has already won almost $90,000.
Pulpit – Broodmare Sire – Enough cannot be said about this outstanding stallion. He even has a Wikipedia page! He earned over $700,000 in his racing career. His foals have earned over $60 million with such famous horses as Tapit (sire of Hansen and Tonalist) and grandsire of California Chrome (Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner in 2014) and 2014 Kentucky Oaks winner, Untapable.
Dover is Dover Crossing’s second foal. The mare is currently in foal with Creative Cause for 2016 with an expected foaling date of 4/9/2016.
The filly has already been registered in The Jockey Club and has been nominated for the KTDF (Kentucky Thoroughbred Development Fund) and also nominated in The Breeders Cup. She is a bit of a feisty filly and has a funky little roany spot on her right side close to the stifle which makes her so unique. She was weaned on 9/21/15.
Other Farm News:
We have a new person here at the farm. Her name is Silvia Perez. She comes from Brittany Farm and has a wealth of experience with Thoroughbreds. She works very hard and ALWAYS has a smile on her face!
Keeneland November Sale: We had one mare, Love Tale who is in foal to Creative Cause that sold for $10,000 and one weanling colt out of Can’t Catch Kate (sired by Creative Cause) that sold for $40,000. We also plan on having 3 weanlings and one mare in foal to Creative Cause for the Keeneland January Sale.
The Breeders Cup has passed and the City of Lexington was very very busy. All went well and American Pharoah won his last race. He will be at Stud at Ashford Farm which is about 12 miles from the farm. So exciting to have such a celebrity so close to this farm!
Next foal is Pardon My Excess.
